European Whistleblower Hotline Requirements Relax After GDPR

Rules and attitudes around hotlines, especially in Europe, are changing, and companies should consider whether their hotlines are compliant and effective given these changes. Two recent webinars, one presented by PLI, featuring Donald C. Dowling, Jr., a shareholder at Littler Mendelson, and the other by SCCE, featuring Vigjilenca Abazi, Assistant Professor at Maastricht University, and Mary Inman, a partner at Constantine Cannon, considered European laws and attitudes toward whistleblowers. Dowling focused on the recent (and under-the-radar) easing of global whistleblower hotline requirements and provided advice for updating hotlines, while Abazi and Inman spoke about the E.U.’s new Whistleblower Directive, which will require member states to set up rules for internal corporate whistleblower hotlines.
