Insights on Odebrecht’s Pandemic Risk Management and Fast-Track Approvals

Nearly four years after agreeing to a multi-billion dollar fine in a global corruption settlement, Odebrecht SA is adapting its revamped compliance program to meet the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic. Margarida de la Riva Smith, former global chief integrity and risk officer with Odebrecht Engineering & Construction, a division of Odebrecht SA, recently spoke with the Anti-Corruption Report’s sister product PaRR in São Paulo. She discussed the company’s new fast-track approval procedure for suppliers during the COVID-19 pandemic, government donations, the pros and cons of online compliance training and monitoring remote workers. Smith is now chief risk officer at Julius Baer in Brazil.
