The current presidential administration is shifting enforcement priorities in ways that place new stress on corporate compliance officers. In a recent discussion organized by Ethico, speakers drew on their recent experience in the federal government to help contextualize the current moment and guide compliance experts who may be feeling set adrift by recent policy changes. The panel included Leigha Simonton, a former U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of Texas (NDTex) and current member of Dykema; Scott Hogan, a former First Assistant U.S. Attorney for the NDTex and current member of Dykema; Matt Kelly, CEO of Radical Compliance; and Matthew Axelrod, a partner at Gibson Dunn who previously served as both Assistant Secretary for Export Enforcement at the U.S. Department of Commerce Bureau of Industry and Security and Principal Associate Deputy AG at the DOJ. This article synthesizes their insights. See “Assessing the Criminal Division’s New Enforcement Focuses” (Jun. 18, 2025).
