Cadence Design Systems, Inc. (Cadence), a multinational electronic design automation technology company with headquarters in San Jose, California, has reached parallel resolutions with the DOJ and the U.S. Department of Commerce Bureau of Industry and Security (BIS) for unlawfully exporting semiconductor design tools to a restricted military university in China. The DOJ and BIS both moved aggressively to hold Cadence accountable for the actions of its Chinese subsidiary, underscoring the current administration’s focus on criminal enforcement of national security-related offenses.
