Since 2011, Colombia has been making incremental improvements to its anti-corruption laws. Now, the country is taking steps to be more concrete and clear around incentives for companies to self-report corruption issues. This first article in a two-part series about the current state of anti-corruption laws and compliance in Colombia reviews the anti-corruption laws passed so far and homes in on a decree passed in early 2024 that lays out how companies can win credit for voluntary self-disclosure. Part two will examine the rules on compliance programs, gifts, lobbying and facilitation payments, as well as a whistleblower protection law in the works. See “Evolving Anti-Corruption Laws in Latin America” (Jan. 31, 2024).
