Latin America is one of the areas hardest hit by the COVID‑19 global pandemic, with local governments struggling to limit the spread, procure enough vaccines and maintain transparency in the use of public funds. Even as the DOJ has announced that fighting corruption in Central America is a priority, it is clear that COVID-specific graft is endemic to the entire Latin American region as the crisis continues. Over the course of the past year and a half, Ropes & Gray closely tracked specific causes of elevated risk and identified key enforcement patterns and setbacks in the region.
