Brazilian president-elect Bolsonaro’s selection of the crusading magistrate Sérgio Moro to join his Cabinet sent shockwaves throughout the Brazilian political establishment and confirmed that the fight against corruption will continue to be front and center in Brazil during the next four years of the Bolsonaro administration. Similar developments have taken place in Mexico and Colombia, where president-elect Andrés Manuel López Obrador and the recently elected president Iván Duque have vowed to crack down on corruption and graft. There is little doubt that anti-corruption efforts will continue to expand in Latin America and that companies doing business in those jurisdictions must be alert to these rapidly shifting regulatory and legal landscapes.
