IAICM: A New Resource for Finding and Working With an Independent Corporate Compliance Monitor

The imposition of independent corporate monitors has been a frequent and familiar requirement in the settlement of corruption matters with the SEC and DOJ. The process of selecting monitors has not been without controversy, however, and despite efforts by the DOJ to bring greater understanding and transparency to that process, it remains largely enigmatic. Best practices for a monitor and what to expect from a monitorship are similarly mysterious and, to many organizations, frightening. But a new organization, the International Association of Independent Corporate Monitors (IAICM), aims to bring some clarity to the process. In a guest article, IAICM’s President, John Hanson, discusses the formation of IAICM and describes how the organization can assist companies subject to monitorships.
